Turin’s passion for chocolate dates back to 1560, when Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy marked the city’s new status by serving hot chocolate. This sparked centuries of innovation, including the creation of the Bicerin in the 1700s - a warming blend of coffee, cocoa, and cream. By the 17th century, Turinese chocolatiers had developed techniques to mould chocolate into bars, birthing pralines, truffles, and cremini. The iconic Gianduiotto, first made in 1865, blended Piedmont hazelnuts and cacao, becoming Italy’s first wrapped chocolate.

Renowned chocolatiers like Peyrano, Caffarel, and Giordano have upheld the city’s sweet legacy. Today, Turin remains a true capital of artisan chocolate, where tradition meets creativity in every bite
